Bed Bug Climb-Up Interceptor
Plastic cup-style device placed under bed legs to intercept bed bugs attempting to climb up to bed from floor or down from bed to harborage. Features smooth inner walls that bed bugs cannot climb, trapping them in outer or inner wells. Serves dual purpose: monitoring bed bug presence/activity and preventing bed bugs from reaching sleeping person. Passive, pesticide-free monitoring and control device essential to bed bug IPM.
Common Use Cases
- Monitor for bed bug presence and activity levels
- Trap bed bugs attempting to reach bed from floor
- Trap bed bugs leaving bed after feeding
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness over time
- Provide early detection of new infestations
- Prevent bed bugs from reaching sleeping occupant when used with encasements
Application Instructions
Ensure bed legs do not touch walls or furniture (maintain 6-inch clearance). Pull bed away from wall if needed. Place one interceptor under each bed leg (typically 4 interceptors per bed). Ensure leg sits centered in inner well. Lightly dust inner surfaces with talcum powder to ensure smooth surface bed bugs cannot climb. Check interceptors weekly during active infestation, monthly for monitoring. Count and record bed bugs caught in each well (inner vs outer wells indicate source). Remove and dispose of trapped bed bugs by submerging in soapy water or sealing in plastic bag and freezing. Clean and reset interceptors. Replace cracked or damaged interceptors.
Specifications
Design: Dual-well plastic cups with outer pitfall ring and inner well for bed leg. Smooth polished interior walls prevent climbing. Typically 3-4 inches diameter, 1-1.5 inches tall. Weight capacity: supports standard bed frames. Colors: White or tan (bed bugs visible against light background). Popular brands: ClimbUp Insect Interceptor, BlackOut Bed Bug Detector.
Safety Warnings & Precautions
- Replace cracked or damaged interceptors immediately
- Ensure bed frame is stable on interceptors
- Check weight capacity for heavy bed frames
- Keep interceptors clean - sticky residue allows climbing
- Do not apply pesticides to interceptors - may repel bed bugs
- Ensure bedding does not touch floor (creates bridge for bed bugs)
