Application Method

Inspect all exterior doors for gaps under door when closed. Test by checking for light visible under closed door or by sliding paper under door - if paper slides through easily, gap is too large. Install, adjust, or replace door sweeps to eliminate gaps. Check threshold for damage, wear, or gaps. Replace damaged thresholds. Adjust door height with hinge screws if needed to improve door sweep contact. For automatic door sweeps, ensure mechanism functions properly. Install drip edge on top of exterior door frames to prevent water intrusion. Weather-stripping should be installed on door sides and top. Check garage doors for gaps - install garage door threshold seals if needed.

Timing

Inspect during every service visit as part of comprehensive IPM inspection. Repair or install immediately when gaps identified.

Frequency

Inspect monthly during service visits. Replace worn sweeps and thresholds as needed - typically annually or every 2-3 years depending on traffic and weather exposure.

Preparation Required

Measure door width. Identify appropriate sweep and threshold type for door style and surface. Clean door bottom and threshold area. Have installation tools ready (drill, screws, saw for cutting sweep to length).

Follow-up Required

Test door operation to ensure it opens and closes freely. Verify sweep makes continuous contact with threshold when closed. Monitor area for continued pest entry. Inspect quarterly for wear.

Safety Precautions

  • Ensure door can still open freely for emergency egress
  • Do not create trip hazard with threshold
  • Use appropriate tools for installation
  • Test door operation after installation
