Application Method
Identify and document moisture problems that attract pests or create conducive conditions. Inspect for: improperly graded soil causing water to flow toward foundation (should slope away at minimum 5% grade for 10 feet), clogged or damaged gutters and downspouts, downspouts terminating near foundation (should direct water at least 4-6 feet away), low spots where water pools, irrigation systems spraying on foundation or creating constantly wet soil, plumbing leaks, condensation on pipes, roof leaks, and poor attic or crawl space ventilation. Document issues with photos. Provide detailed written recommendations to customer with priority ranking. Explain how moisture attracts specific pests (termites, carpenter ants, springtails, mosquitoes). May involve collaboration with general contractor, landscaper, or plumber for repairs.
Timing
Assess during initial inspection and document. Re-inspect during each service visit to verify corrections have been made and check for new moisture issues.
Frequency
Ongoing monitoring during each service visit. Document changes. Recommend corrections until resolved.
Preparation Required
Have moisture meter and inspection tools available. Prepare recommendation form or report template. Have camera ready for documentation. Knowledge of proper drainage requirements.
Follow-up Required
Provide written report to customer with photos and specific recommendations. Follow up on subsequent visits to verify repairs completed. Explain impact on pest pressure. Adjust treatment program as moisture issues are corrected.
Safety Precautions
- Use ladder safely when inspecting gutters and roof
- Be aware of electrical hazards when inspecting wet areas
