Spackle / Joint Compound
Paste-like material for filling larger holes and gaps in walls, ceilings, and woodwork. Dries hard and can be sanded and painted. Used with spackling knife for application. Essential for pest exclusion work on drywall and plaster.
Common Use Cases
- Fill gaps and holes too large to caulk (typically >1/2 inch)
- Repair damaged walls and ceilings
- Seal pest entry points in drywall
- Fill cracks around window and door frames
- Patch holes after pest inspection or treatment
Application Instructions
For rodent prevention, stuff larger holes with steel wool or copper mesh first. Apply spackle with 1-inch spackling knife or putty knife. For larger holes: apply in layers, letting it dry between applications (typically 2-4 hours between layers). Do not apply too thick at once as it will crack. Sand smooth when fully dry (24 hours). Prime and paint over for finished appearance. Use setting-type joint compound for areas requiring extra strength.
