Application Method

Install ultraviolet light traps strategically throughout commercial facilities following industry placement guidelines. Position units 15-20 feet apart, 4-6 feet above floor height, in areas where flies are problem but away from entry doors and windows (to avoid attracting flies from outside). Mount to draw insects away from sensitive areas toward trap. Never install above food preparation surfaces or exposed food. Use glue board style units (safer) in food handling areas rather than electric grid style (insect fragments). Connect to dedicated electrical circuit. During installation, verify UV bulbs are correct type and wattage for unit. Ensure unit is level and secure. Clean protective grids and check operation.

Timing

Install as part of new facility setup or when implementing comprehensive fly management program. Can be added to existing facilities any time.

Frequency

Service monthly including glue board replacement, catch counting, cleaning, and bulb inspection. Replace UV bulbs annually even if still producing visible light (UV output degrades). Clean unit interior quarterly.

Preparation Required

Survey facility to determine trap placement and quantity needed. Verify electrical outlets available. Select appropriate trap type for each location. Have mounting hardware and tools ready. Obtain customer approval for placement.

Follow-up Required

Provide customer with initial trap placement map and service schedule. Document installation date and locations. Schedule monthly service visits for glue board replacement and catch monitoring. Track catch data to measure program effectiveness.

Safety Precautions

  • Install away from food preparation and food storage areas
  • Ensure units are UL-listed
  • Turn off power before servicing
  • Mount securely to prevent falling
  • Position away from entry doors to avoid attracting pests from outside
  • Use glue board units (not zappers) in food facilities
