Application Method

Maintain 12-18 inch vegetation-free zone around building perimeter by trimming back bushes, removing ground cover, and clearing mulch away from foundation. Cut tree branches that touch or overhang building to eliminate pest highways. Remove ivy and other climbing vines from walls. Keep grass mowed short near foundation. Eliminate harborage by removing leaf litter, wood piles, and debris from around building. Store firewood at least 20 feet from structure and 6 inches off ground. Trim vegetation away from utility lines entering building. This cultural control removes pest harborage, travel routes, and moisture sources adjacent to building.

Timing

Perform initial major trimming and clearing, then maintain throughout year. Most critical in spring before pest season begins.

Frequency

Initial setup, then monthly maintenance during growing season. Inspect and touch up every service visit. Annual major pruning in late winter/early spring.

Preparation Required

Inspect perimeter to identify vegetation needing trimming. Have appropriate tools ready. Plan disposal of vegetation debris. Identify areas where vegetation removal could cause erosion issues.

Follow-up Required

Remove and dispose of trimmed vegetation to prevent new harborage. Inspect for pest activity in newly exposed areas. Maintain vegetation-free border through regular trimming. Apply mulch or other ground cover appropriate for area if needed but keep away from foundation.

Safety Precautions

  • Use appropriate tools safely (pruning shears, loppers, chainsaw)
  • Wear gloves when handling vegetation
  • Be aware of stinging insects when trimming near nests
  • Dispose of vegetation debris promptly to eliminate harborage
  • Check for wildlife before removing dense vegetation
