Carpenter Ant Non-Repellent Treatment

| Carpenter Ant | Camponotus spp. | Ants |
Application Method
Apply non-repellent liquid insecticide (fipronil, indoxacarb, chlorfenapyr) to areas where carpenter ants are foraging and trailing. Non-repellent products cannot be detected by ants, allowing foragers to contact treated surfaces and transfer active ingredient to colony members through grooming and trophallaxis. Apply as crack and crevice treatment to baseboards, window sills, door frames, plumbing penetrations, and electrical outlets. For exterior: treat foundation, tree stumps, firewood piles, landscape timbers, and other wood structures where ants may be nesting. Drill and treat wall voids if nest location identified. Non-repellents provide superior carpenter ant control compared to repellent pyrethroids by killing ants before they can detect and avoid treated areas.
Timing
Most effective in spring when carpenter ants are actively foraging. Can be applied any time activity observed.
Frequency
Initial treatment with follow-up in 2-3 weeks. Reapply every 60-90 days during active season if needed. Products provide extended residual.
Preparation Required
Identify ant trails and foraging areas. Locate nest if possible (wall voids, stumps, landscape timber). Clear access to treatment areas. Remove food sources and correct moisture issues.
Follow-up Required
Monitor ant activity with baits and visual inspection. Allow 2-3 weeks for colony elimination through transfer effect. Schedule follow-up treatment if activity persists. Remove wood-to-ground contact and correct moisture issues for long-term prevention.
Safety Precautions
- Requires licensed pest management professional
- Keep people and pets off treated surfaces until dry
- Do not apply to food contact surfaces
- Some products highly toxic to fish - avoid application near aquariums and ponds
- Wear appropriate PPE
- Follow all label precautions
