Application Method

Apply insecticidal dust to attic spaces to control pests harboring in attics or prevent pest entry from attics into living spaces. Use boric acid, diatomaceous earth, silica gel, or pyrethroid dust. Apply with hand duster, electric duster, or commercial dusting equipment. Apply light, even coating to attic floor joists, along wall/ceiling junction, around penetrations, and to harborage areas. Target application to areas with pest activity while avoiding over-application. Dust settles into cracks and crevices providing long-lasting residual control if kept dry. Particularly effective for pests that enter from attics through light fixtures, ceiling penetrations, and wall voids. Also used after bat or rodent exclusion to eliminate parasitic mites.

Timing

Apply during comprehensive pest control program or when attic harboring identified. Best done in dry weather.

Frequency

One-time application provides long-term control if dust remains dry and undisturbed. Inspect annually and reapply if dust disturbed or wet.

Preparation Required

Inspect attic for pest activity and harborage. Identify areas to treat and avoid. Have appropriate PPE and dusting equipment ready. Plan access and movement through attic to avoid insulation damage.

Follow-up Required

Document treated areas. Ensure attic access sealed. Monitor living space for pest activity reduction. Dust provides indefinite control if kept dry and undisturbed.

Safety Precautions

  • Requires licensed pest management professional
  • Wear respirator, eye protection, and protective clothing
  • Ensure attic ventilation not blocked by dust
  • Apply light coating only - heavy dust less effective
  • Do not apply near HVAC system air intakes
  • Ensure attic access properly sealed after treatment
