Application Method

Apply insect growth regulator (methoprene, hydroprene) as crack and crevice or surface spray to areas where stored product pests develop. IGR prevents larvae from developing into reproductive adults, breaking reproduction cycle. Apply to empty shelving, pallet racks, cracks in walls and floors, and other non-food contact surfaces in food storage and processing areas. Can be tank-mixed with adulticide for combination treatment. Provides long residual control (6-12 months) by preventing new generations from developing. IGR alone will not kill existing adults but prevents population growth. Most effective as part of integrated program including sanitation, product rotation, and pheromone monitoring. Well-suited for food facilities due to low mammalian toxicity.

Timing

Apply during facility cleaning when areas are empty. Best applied before restocking with new product.

Frequency

Single application provides 6-12 months residual. Reapply annually or when pheromone traps indicate new infestation developing.

Preparation Required

Empty area of product for treatment. Clean and sanitize before IGR application. Identify all non-food contact surfaces for treatment. Calculate area for proper dilution and coverage.

Follow-up Required

Allow treated surfaces to dry completely. Document treatment areas. Combine with sanitation, product rotation, and monitoring for comprehensive program. Monitor with pheromone traps to measure effectiveness. IGR prevents reproduction but does not kill existing adults - expect gradual population decline.
