Application Method
Apply residual insecticide to outdoor surfaces where mosquitoes rest during daytime including underside of leaves, shrubs, ornamental plants, tall grass, tree trunks, fence surfaces, deck undersides, foundation walls, and shaded areas around property. Use backpack sprayer, hand-can sprayer, or power equipment. Apply coarse droplet spray to minimize drift and maximize coverage of resting surfaces. Focus on shaded, moist areas where mosquitoes harbor. Products typically contain pyrethroids (bifenthrin, permethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin) or newer active ingredients. Apply to point of runoff to ensure adequate coverage of leaf undersides. Avoid treating flowering plants when pollinators are active.
Timing
Begin applications in early spring when mosquitoes first emerge. Apply in early morning or evening when mosquitoes are most active and beneficial insects less active. Avoid windy conditions.
Frequency
Reapply every 21-30 days throughout mosquito season (typically April-October depending on region). May need more frequent applications after heavy rain.
Preparation Required
Identify mosquito resting and breeding sites. Note water features and pollinator habitats to avoid. Close windows and remove or cover pet food/water. Recommend customer eliminates standing water breeding sites. Mix product to labeled dilution rate.
Follow-up Required
Document treatment areas. Educate customer on source reduction (eliminate standing water). Monitor mosquito populations. Adjust treatment frequency based on customer feedback and mosquito pressure. Reapply after heavy rainfall.
