Application Method

Apply residual insecticide to outdoor areas where pets rest and fleas develop including shaded areas under decks, porches, dog houses, shrubs, and trees. Fleas develop in shaded moist areas with organic debris where pets spend time. Use power sprayer to apply pyrethroid or combination pyrethroid/IGR product. Treat turf, mulched areas, under decks, pet resting areas, and along building foundation. IGR component (pyriproxyfen, methoprene) prevents flea larvae from developing into biting adults, breaking reproduction cycle. Must coordinate with indoor treatment and on-animal flea control for effective program. Most effective when combined with yard cleanup to remove organic debris.

Timing

Treat when flea activity detected or as preventive measure in spring before flea season begins. Coordinate with indoor treatments.

Frequency

Reapply every 30-60 days during flea season depending on product and infestation level. Products with IGR may provide longer residual.

Preparation Required

Identify areas where pets rest and spend time outdoors. Recommend customer clears organic debris and mows lawn. Coordinate with simultaneous indoor treatment plan. Verify customer is treating pets with veterinary flea products.

Follow-up Required

Keep pets off treated areas until dry (2-4 hours). Monitor flea populations. Coordinate follow-up indoor and outdoor treatments. Educate customer on importance of treating pets, indoor, and outdoor simultaneously for effective control.
