Flea IGR Application
Target Pests (3)
Application Method
Apply insect growth regulator (pyriproxyfen, methoprene, or hydroprene) to carpets, upholstered furniture, pet bedding areas, and cracks where flea eggs and larvae develop. IGRs prevent immature fleas from developing into biting adults by disrupting molting process. Apply as tank-mix with adulticide or as standalone treatment. Provides long residual control (up to 7 months) by preventing new flea generations. Most effective when combined with thorough vacuuming to remove existing adults, eggs, and larvae. Apply with pump sprayer using fan nozzle. Focus on areas where pets rest including pet beds, furniture, carpets, and baseboards. IGR alone will not kill existing adult fleas - must be combined with adulticide for immediate relief.
Timing
Apply as part of comprehensive flea treatment program. Can be applied with initial knockdown treatment or as follow-up treatment.
Frequency
Single application provides 6-7 months residual control. Reapply if flea activity recurs or with follow-up adulticide treatments.
Preparation Required
Customer must vacuum thoroughly to remove existing fleas and debris. Remove pets during treatment. Identify all pet resting areas. Calculate square footage for proper dilution and coverage. Coordinate with outdoor treatment if needed.
Follow-up Required
Allow treated surfaces to dry completely (2-4 hours). Customer should continue regular vacuuming to remove developing fleas. Monitor for continued flea activity. IGR prevents reproduction but does not kill existing adults - customer should expect gradual reduction over 2-4 weeks as adult fleas die off naturally.
Safety Precautions
- Requires licensed pest management professional
- Keep pets and people off treated surfaces until dry
- Do not apply to areas where children crawl or play
- Avoid over-application to prevent residue buildup
- Do not apply to food contact surfaces
- Coordinate with veterinary on-animal flea control
