Application Method
Treat active rodent burrows found around building perimeter, under decks, in yards, and landscape areas. Identify active burrows by fresh digging, fresh tracks, or lack of cobwebs at entrance. For rat burrows: place bait deep in burrow using bait station probe rod or flexible rods. Do not seal burrow initially - allow rats to continue accessing bait and carrying it deeper into system. After 2-3 weeks of baiting when activity ceases, seal burrow with soil or concrete. Alternative method: apply tracking powder into burrow using hand duster, then seal loosely with newspaper to force rodents through treated area. For ground squirrels: use specialized burrow baiting equipment. Never use gas cartridges or smoke bombs in burrows near buildings - risk of fire and toxic fumes entering structure.
Timing
Treat when active burrows discovered. Most effective in spring and fall when rodents are actively foraging.
Frequency
Check and replenish bait weekly until no longer consumed. May need multiple treatments over 3-4 weeks to eliminate colony. Seal burrows once activity ceases.
Preparation Required
Identify and map all burrows. Confirm burrows are active using flour test or tissue paper test. Have appropriate bait and application equipment ready. Plan monitoring schedule.
Follow-up Required
Check burrows weekly for bait consumption and activity. Replenish bait as consumed. Once activity ceases for 2 weeks, seal burrows with soil or concrete. Continue perimeter monitoring with traps or bait stations to prevent recolonization.
Safety Precautions
- Requires licensed pest management professional
- Ensure children and pets cannot access treated burrows
- Follow all bait label directions
- Never use near water or where runoff could contaminate waterways
- Mark treated burrows for tracking
- Have vitamin K1 information available
- Do not use gas cartridges near structures
