Application Method

Install bed bug interceptor monitors under each bed leg (4 per bed). Interceptors are plastic pitfall traps with two wells - outer well captures bed bugs climbing up toward bed, inner well captures bed bugs coming down from infested bed. Smooth, talc-coated interior walls prevent bed bugs from escaping. After installation, move bed away from walls and remove all bedding contact with floor to force bed bugs to climb legs to reach host. Check interceptors weekly and count/remove captured bed bugs. Interceptor catches indicate: new infestation source (outer well catches), treatment failure (inner well catches after treatment), or reintroduction from neighboring units. Essential monitoring tool for detecting bed bugs early and measuring treatment success.

Timing

Install during or immediately after initial bed bug treatment. Leave in place for minimum 6-8 weeks for monitoring.

Frequency

Check weekly initially, then bi-weekly once no bed bugs captured for 4 weeks. Leave in place indefinitely for early warning system in high-risk environments.

Preparation Required

Count bed legs and order appropriate number of interceptors (typically 4 per bed, 2 for nightstands). Ensure bed frame compatible with interceptors. Plan to move bed away from walls.

Follow-up Required

Educate customer to check interceptors weekly and report catches. Count and document bed bugs captured during each visit. Photograph catches for records. Adjust treatment plan based on interceptor catches. Pull bed away from walls if bedding touching floor or walls.

Safety Precautions

  • Ensure bed legs fit securely in interceptor cups
  • Do not use with adjustable beds or beds with casters
  • Check that interceptors remain level and in place
  • Empty and clean interceptors during each inspection
